Home Office Decor: Maximize Your Limited Space

2020 really shook things up when it came to work life. Because going into an office was definitely not happening, so many people found themselves adapting to remote work setups, often within the confines of small living spaces. Not only did we need to find the right “home office” space, we also needed to be able to make the space a place we didn’t hate that felt different from the rest of our home. And although we’re not quite in the same place we were years ago, many people are still working from home. Gone are the days of working from your couch or dining room table (unless you want to, of course, I love parking it on the couch and getting work done occasionally), now you can make even a small space in your home work for you while you work. Despite limited square footage, creating an inspiring and functional home office is entirely achievable with the right decor choices.

First, maximizing space efficiency is key. Consider furniture pieces that serve dual purposes, like a wall-mounted shelf that doubles as a workspace. Utilize that vertical space with floating shelves or a pegboard organizer. This way you can keep office supplies and essentials within reach without cluttering your desk.

Speaking of clutter, keeping your space clutter free means embracing organization. Implement clever storage solutions like stackable bins, drawer organizers, or cable management systems to keep cords neatly tucked away. Consider incorporating multifunctional decor elements like decorative baskets or stylish bins that conceal office supplies while adding aesthetic appeal to the space. By decluttering regularly and maintaining an organized workspace, you'll create a conducive environment for focus and creativity.

And don’t forget to sprinkle your small home office with personality and style to make it feel inviting and inspiring. Incorporate elements of your personal taste through artwork, plants, or decorative accents that spark joy and motivate you throughout the workday. I love the idea of adding a cork board or magnetic board to your space. You can put up photos, to-do lists and affirmations/favorite quotes with unique and chic magnets and push pins you can find here. Choose a color scheme that reflects your aesthetic preferences while also enhancing productivity; for example, calming hues like blues and greens can promote relaxation and concentration. By infusing your home office with elements that resonate with you, you'll cultivate a space where you can thrive professionally while feeling comfortable and at ease.
